Alyssa Monks: Photo Realism

Photorealism is a difficult concept to recognize. Many of us appreciate the end result of photorealism but we hardly understand the time and patience that goes into every piece of work. Alyssa Monks show us that with patience new and exciting concepts emerge. With a wide variety of composition, while holding on to a similar theme Monks creates work that is fun to look at as well as inspiring and refreshing.

  1. I totally understand what you mean by having a hard time finding inspiration sometimes, I have those same problems being an art major myself. Anyways, I really love these paintings by Alyssa Monks, she has a unique talent for sure. I checked out the link and some of her other portfolios and the way that she handles her paint is amazing and with so much detail making them look like photographs almost. Especially working with water-like atmospheres, she makes it look so easy. The distortion and small details that they show up-close you can see all the layers and appreciate the time spent on these paintings. Nice blog, and I enjoyed looking at this artists' work and I look forward to check out more from your blog in the future.

  3. I love to draw, but I have never gotten into any kind of color works. I think it is quite easy to do a self portrait of someone with lead and make it look identical, but with water color, and a brush? It is amazing to see the talent some people have when they finally express it.
